It has been decided to take up a pilot project for linking Government Medical College Libraries with National Medical Library, New Delhi. Through this pilot project one Medical College Library of each of the State , will be provided hardware , software and a telephone connection exclusively for internet connection.

1. Financial assistance would be provided for engaging data entry operators/ computer operators for one year only. Thereafter it is expected that the existing staff of college/ library would take up the duties of data entry operators.

2. Short-term training in use of computer and Internet would be provided to librarians and existing college / library staff. Sensitization workshop , in use of computer and internet would also be organized for two faculty members from each Medical College

3. Government of India will provide the finances (non-recurring) on the reimbursement basis. Recurring expenditure on Internet connection, telephone bill and consumable / peripherals will have to be borne by the State Government.
   
   Details of financial reimbursement are as follows:

   1. Rs. 3.00 lakhs or actual, which ever is less for computer hardware and software.

   2. Rs. 6000/- per person per month (consolidated) for each of two data entry operators/ computer operators for one year only.

   3. Rs. 50,000/- or actual , which ever is less for furnishing of room for installation of computer.

   4. Actual expenditure incurred on installation of one telephone line and internet connection for 1000 hours (one time only).

4. Mode of Operation:




1. Students, teachers, doctors search a database like MEDLINE (which is available free of charge on internet) for their studies, thesis work, patient care etc. and obtain a list of references (with abstracts, where ever possible) on the topic of their choice.

2. Out of the reference list if the text of desired article/s, is not available either in the college library or on the internet (as some of the medical journals are available on line), National Medical Library website (www.nml.nic.in ) may be accessed for the list /details of journals available in National Medical Library. An email request to National Medical Library (at nmldghs@bol.net.in) may be sent for the full text of the concerned article/s.

3. National Medical Library , subject to copyright conditions , will provide the article/s on the email address to the user library for downloading.
